Colours
Without pulling out all the fixtures and fittings in your kitchen, you can simply choose to paint and give your home a fresh feel. A simple lick of paint can give a whole new look and feel to your home. But what colours should you be using? What’s going to make your kitchen stand out?
The key is to mix it up a bit. Experiment with colours until you find a shade that compliments your kitchen units and is to your liking too. Being creative with colours can make your home stand out amongst your friends and really wow your guests. By pairing bright coloured or feature walls with neutral tones, you can create a pop of colour in your home, that gives in a unique feel. Accenting a wall with a bold colour can highlight a section of your kitchen, and really draw the eye. Yellows or oranges evoke a summery feel in your home, paired with some neutral tones, this can really help your kitchen come alive.
Alternatively, you could try some cooler colours. In the blazing heat of summer, sometimes it can be nice to sit a room that is cool – so, why not paint your kitchen to match? Cooling colours can create the feel of a breezy and refreshing environment – away from the baking heat.
Open Up
Slightly more of a project then a simple paint job but opening your kitchen up to the outside world can help bring that summery feel into your home. Many find that by letting in lots of natural light, your home is not only brighter but feels warmer too – especially in the summer heat.
Sky lights, conservatories or even folding doors can help blur the line between kitchen and garden, opening your home to the outside. It’s a great way of interacting with people in the garden, but still being able to be in the kitchen and prepare food/drinks/etc. Opening up your home to your garden makes socialising easier, it creates a larger space to accommodate more people – paired with the right garden furniture. Think of that summer breeze drifting through your home too – circulating fresh air around the house. Consider folding doors or a conservatory adjoining your kitchen this summer, to create an open space to maximise the beautiful weather.
Décor
Another easy way to freshen up your home in time for summer is to think of some new décor to have in your kitchen. It doesn’t have to cost as much as a conservatory but selecting some key pieces to decorate your kitchen with can help you achieve a summer look for your kitchen. Floral prints on cushions or throws around the kitchen can help you achieve that warm summer feel in your kitchen. Seashell lamps or vases can also help bring the beach to your kitchen too, another way to bring the summer feel into your home, as well as decorating with stripes too. Just remember to keep the décor minimal, otherwise you’ll clutter your kitchen.
Go Outdoors
Okay, whilst this technically isn’t in your kitchen, it involves kitchen design and is an idea… So, if you’ve got the space, and more importantly the budget, have you ever thought about building a complete, outdoor kitchen? It’s a big trend in America, probably because they have better weather… However, it’s a great way to bring together your kitchen and diner outside, and really immerse yourself with your outside guests. What screams summer kitchen more than an outside cooking area? We brits tend to go a bit smaller however, with BBQ areas and decking. So, if you don’t fancy wiring up the electric and gas outside, invest in some outside refurb! Build a decking or BBQ area to entertain in!
These are just some great kitchen design ideas to keep your home looking fresh and ready for the summer. No matter your budget, you can use these ideas to bring that summer feel into your home. Whether it’s decorating or painting or going bigger, you can get your home stylish and ready for those hot summer days with friends and family.
